Prenatal Exposure to Outdoor Air Pollution and Childhood Allergic Diseases

چکیده
The results showed that incidence of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and eczema in children was associated with maternal exposure to traffic-related pollutant NO2 throughout pregnancy. After adjustment for other pollutants and trimesters, the researchers found the association was significant only in specific trimesters: the first trimester for eczema, the second trimester for asthma, and the third trimester for allergic rhinitis.

Early-lifetime exposure to air pollution and allergic sensitization in children with asthma.
Observations on the association between exposure to common outdoor air pollutants and allergic sensitization have not been consistent. Little research has been done on the effects of prenatal exposure or the effect among asthmatics. The association between prenatal and early-life exposures and outdoor air pollutants with allergic sensitization was examined within a cohort of 170 children ages 6...
متن کاملThe Impact of Asthma and Allergic Diseases on Schoolchildren: Are They at Increased Risk of Absenteeism and Poor School Performance?
1.1 Asthma and allergic diseases in children Asthma is the most common chronic illness of childhood in both developed and developing countries and there is a wide concensus that asthma and allergies have become more prevalent among children (Robertson et al., 2004). Among children, higher prevalence rates of asthma have been found in industrialized western countries than in developing countries...
متن کاملPD04 - The environmental risk factors and prevalence of childhood allergic diseases in an industrial city
This study aims to investigate the allergic disease (AD) prevalence for elementary school children in an industrial city of Ulsan and identify major environmental risk factors associated with AD prevalence. Data on the physician-diagnosed prevalence in the past 1 year and potential risk factors of AD (asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis) were collected by a questionnaire including I...
متن کاملEnvironmental and occupational allergies.
Airborne allergens are the major cause of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Daily exposure comes from indoor sources, chiefly at home but occasionally at schools or offices. Seasonal exposure to outdoor allergens, pollens, and molds is another important source. Exposure to unusual substances at work causes occupational asthma, accounting for about 5% of asthma in adults. Indoor and outdoor air poll...
متن کاملOutdoor air pollution, climatic changes and allergic bronchial asthma.
Both the prevalence and severity of respiratory allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma have increased in recent years. Among the factors implicated in this "epidemic" are indoor and outdoor airborne pollutants. Urbanisation with its high levels of vehicle emissions and Westernised lifestyle parallels the increase in respiratory allergy in most industrialised countries, and people who live i...
